Self-Care Sunday

Updated: Jul 20, 2020

“Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.”

I am so thankful that this is a term now viewed as a positive thing. I feel like in the past there was a negative stigma about it. You could be (or feared you would be) viewed as weak, lazy, or crazy for needing to put yourself first. I know that I personally have felt weird about admitting I needed that alone time, needing to unplug from my phone, go on a trip, or even journal my feelings. I’m not sure where it started but I’m so glad we have taken control as a society on taking care of ourselves.

Once we entered the real world after quarantine, I knew I needed to personally change something in my week to recharge.

I decided on a self-care Sunday. I always try to read a book or write a journal entry but I found I could REALLY relax when I was taking care of my skin. It gives a ‘spa like’ vibe if you will.

Here’s the 8 steps to my Self Care Sunday.

Step 1: Light the candles! (Lavender is my go-to scent for everything)

Step 2: Exfoliate. I’ve been using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Scrub for a few months and I really like. I try to use it twice a week.

Step 3: Put on music! I have a go to “Chill” Playlist, or as my sister calls it- “in your feels” playlist. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Step 4: FACIAL STEAMER! This is my favorite part. Sit back, relax, and let the steam do its job. My steamer goes for about 10 minutes.

Step 5: Now that your pores are open from the steam, take the facial suction to get out the dirt and grime. I’m always amazed by how much yuck builds up on your face!

Step 6: Rinse your face off with cool water to close your pores.

Step 7: Derma Roller. I typically do a few stokes on the sides of my face, my chin, and around my forehead. A Derma Roller helps produce collagen, reduce fine lines/wrinkles, and helps repair facial scarring. It also helps products get into your skin easier.

Step 8: This is when I do either a moisturizer or serum. I have two serums that I like to alternate.

• Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil

• Andalou CannaCell Facial Serum

I discovered the Midnight Recovery oil during a Nordstrom’s sale and instantly fell in LOVE! I am very fair skinned and with that comes a natural redness. I found that after using this product at night, I wake up with my skin looking and feeling brand new- and with no redness!

I hope you find ways to add Self-Care into your week. If you try any of these steps, leave a comment and let me know what you thought!

YOU are important.

YOU are worthy.

YOU deserve the best!
